32 people to stand trial in Senegal in case involving same-sex relations
Prosecutors in Louga, northwestern Senegal, announced on 30 October 2026 that 32 people had been sent for trial. Senegalese news agency APS reported that an investigating judge made the decision on 15 October. Local outlet iGFM reported that a hearing was set for 12 November.
The investigation began on 23 April. The charges include criminal conspiracy, “acts against nature,” intentional transmission of HIV, endangering life, unlawful collection of personal data and sexual harassment. Senegal’s criminal code uses “acts against nature” to cover sexual acts between people of the same sex.
In March, Senegal increased the penalties under that provision. The amended law carries a prison term of five to ten years.
