Jewish LGBT organisation Keshet publishes prayer for Transgender Day of Remembrance

On 5 November 2026, the US Jewish LGBT organisation Keshet published a memorial prayer on its website for communities observing Transgender Day of Remembrance on 20 November. The text was written by Rabbi Eliana Kayelle, Issac Young and Elie Hausman.

The opening echoes El Malei Rachamim, a traditional Jewish prayer for the dead. The authors ask for the dead to find rest and remember those whose lives were cut short by violence. The roots and branches of trees evoke ties between generations. The closing blessing, given in English and Hebrew, speaks of remembering the dead as a source of strength for the living.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed on 20 November in memory of those who died as a result of violence. In 2026, it falls on a Friday. In a separate Keshet resource, Elijah Cohen-Gordon suggests ways Jewish communities can remember those who died as Shabbat begins.

Keshet began in 1996 as a volunteer group in the Boston area. It now works across the United States and prepares resources for synagogues, Jewish schools and other community institutions.
