Nebraska and Arizona Approve Restrictions on Transgender Athletes
Voters in the US states of Nebraska and Arizona supported restrictions on transgender athletes on November 3, 2026. Results are still subject to official certification.
Nebraska approved Initiative 442, Fairness for Girls. The official pamphlet sets out constitutional rules for school and college sports based on biological sex, excluding transgender girls from female teams. Arizona passed Proposition 318, extending restrictions to private schools and tying access to sports changing rooms and bathrooms to birth-certificate sex, Reuters reports.
Colorado’s sports Proposition 134 and minors’ surgery Proposition 135 led in preliminary returns; CPR reported on November 4 that Associated Press had not called either result. In Washington, Initiative 638, excluding transgender girls from girls’ school sports and requiring medical sex verification, also led as counting continued.
Missouri rejected Amendment 3, which combined abortion restrictions with a constitutional ban on certain surgeries for transgender minors. Equality Federation confirmed the outcome.
Supporters of sports restrictions cite fairness and safety in women’s competition; opponents cite discrimination and government interference in family and school decisions.
