ORAM Discusses Economic Support for LGBT Refugees at US Forum

Steve Roth, executive director of LGBT refugee support organization ORAM, took part in the Global Inclusive Finance Forum in New York on October 29, 2026. According to ORAM’s account, he shared experience working with refugees and asylum seekers during a discussion on expanding LGBT people’s economic opportunities.

The organization said participants discussed how philanthropy and investment targeting social benefits could support livelihood programs. ORAM linked the discussion to declining availability of traditional funding. Later that day, Roth led a separate roundtable on these issues.

Koppa, an organization focused on LGBT economic opportunities, organized the forum. Fabrice Houdart’s roundup published by Stonewall News announced the gathering for October 29–30 at New York’s Deutsche Bank Center. Topics included healthcare, housing, tourism and investment. That preview described the program; ORAM’s subsequent account confirms Roth’s participation on October 29.

ORAM’s statement does not specify new financial commitments or grants awarded as a result of the gathering. It describes an exchange of experience and discussion of where additional resources are needed.

ORAM — the Organization for Refuge, Asylum and Migration — was founded in San Francisco in 2008 and assists LGBT refugees and asylum seekers. Its program descriptions include training in marketable skills, seed funding for refugee businesses and mentoring intended to help people earn an independent income.
