Investigation sought in Morocco over LGBT flag at Coldplay tribute concert
On 31 October 2026, Moroccan organisation the Centre for the Protection of Social Rights and Development Strategies said it had submitted a complaint to the head of the public prosecution service over a rainbow LGBT flag at a concert in Casablanca. According to Al3omk, the complaint concerns a performance on 29 October at the Sacré-Cœur venue.
The Visit Casablanca programme lists the event as Coldplay Tribute — A Sky Full of Stars, organised by UnderGround. It featured other musicians performing songs by the British band; Coldplay’s own members did not perform.
The centre considers displaying the flag incompatible with Morocco’s religious values and rules for using a municipal venue. Its statement says one of the singers raised the flag and that minors were in the audience. These are the complainant’s claims.
The organisation requests a review of how the concert was authorised and whether the venue’s terms of use were respected. It also seeks questioning of the performer, organisers and a representative of venue operator Casa Events to establish responsibility for what happened.
Lenew describes differing reactions: some social media users consider the gesture provocative, while others defend freedom of artistic expression.
Sacré-Cœur is a former Catholic church that reopened after restoration in 2023 as a cultural venue managed by Casa Events et Animation. Le360 previously reported on its conversion.
