Breitbart editor calls attacks on late US Senator Lindsey Graham homophobic

In the United States on October 26, 2026, conservative outlet Breitbart published comments by its editor-in-chief and radio host Alex Marlow, who described attacks on the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham as homophobic. In a short clip from The Alex Marlow Show, he said: ‘It’s gay-bashing. It’s flat-out.’
The comments followed the October 22 release of The CLOSETocracy, a documentary from Swamp Watch distributed by the left-wing media platform The Young Turks. Three men allege in the film that Graham paid them for sex; one says he was 17 at the time of the alleged encounter. The Advocate stresses that it has not independently verified the allegations. During his lifetime, Graham denied being gay.
On the film’s website, its creators explain the release as a matter of public interest concerning the alleged gap between the politician’s private life and his votes on LGBTQ rights. They say the accompanying travel receipts, newspaper reports and other documents allow places and dates to be compared. However, the filmmakers clarify that the documents do not establish what happened during the alleged encounters.
Republican US Representative William Timmons of South Carolina also criticised the allegations, calling them lies and saying Graham could no longer defend himself. In a post on X, Timmons accused opponents of using homophobic attacks for political gain.
Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for the conservative organisation Turning Point USA, in turn described the rumours about Graham as long-standing. According to The Advocate, he suggested that trying to use them against Graham’s sister would backfire on his critics. That assessment does not corroborate the film participants’ allegations.
Graham died on July 11, 2026, aged 71. On July 13, South Carolina’s governor appointed his sister Darline Graham to the vacant Senate seat. She faces Democrat Annie Andrews in the November 3 election. Lindsey Graham had represented the state in the Senate since 2003 and opposed same-sex marriage; in 2022, he voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified federal recognition of such marriages.
Uránia previously reported on the history of rumours about Graham’s sexual orientation.
