Italian LGBT Christian Association Announces Webinars on Reading the Bible

The Italian association La Tenda di Gionata, which supports LGBT Christians and their loved ones, has announced two free ecumenical webinars on reading the Bible and welcoming people into church communities. An announcement published by Gionata on October 14, 2026, scheduled the meetings for October 22 and November 6 as part of the Cornerstone 2 project.

The first webinar was scheduled for October 22 with Italian Catholic theologian Cristina Simonelli and Waldensian pastor Gabriele Bertin. According to the programme, it addresses biblical hospitality, historical-critical approaches to Scripture, and readings rooted in the experiences of LGBT people and other minorities.

Philologist and ecumenical activist Elza Ferrario and Waldensian pastor and theologian Letizia Tomassone are listed for November 6. They are due to discuss building a community open to different people, drawing on the Beatitudes and Gospel understandings of honour, shame and vulnerability.

The programme page lists the second webinar at 7 p.m. Italian time, while the original announcement and poster say 6 p.m. Participants should confirm the time with the organisers. Registration is required to receive the joining link; participation is free.

According to the organisers, “Cornerstone 2: mi fido di te” is supported by the Waldensian Church’s 8×1000 programme. La Tenda di Gionata was founded in 2018 and supports LGBT believers, their families and people involved in pastoral work.

Uránia previously reported on another Italian initiative: meetings on the Bible and LGBT experiences at Alessandria’s Methodist church. That programme runs through January 2027.
