Italian Methodist Church Announces Bible Discussions Exploring LGBT Experiences
The Methodist church in Alessandria, northern Italy, has announced four public meetings on reading the Bible in light of LGBT experiences. The programme, published by Gionata on October 22, 2026, runs through January 2027. Organisers propose discussing biblical stories from the perspective of queer theology.
The first meeting was announced for October 23, with Italian theologian Selene Zorzi joining via Zoom. Zorzi co-wrote the introduction to the Italian edition of Bibbia Queer. Un commentario, according to the Tomassetti Library catalogue.
A discussion of Adam, Eve and the serpent is scheduled for November 13, followed on December 11 by the relationships between Ruth and Naomi and between David and Jonathan. The series is due to conclude on January 15, 2027, with Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. The programme connects these stories to questions of freedom, human relationships and participation in a faith community.
All four meetings were scheduled for 8:30 p.m. local time at the Methodist church at Corso Borsalino 24. Admission is free. The congregation’s address is confirmed by the Waldensian Church’s official directory.
The programme mentions Bibbia Queer, published in Italian by EDB in 2023. This collection of commentaries on biblical books brings together scholars and pastors to examine interpretations of Scripture and its influence on LGBT communities. Gianluca Montaldi edited the Italian edition.
