In October 2026, speaking at a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio, U.S. President Donald Trump publicly told supporters that he closely inspected the physique of Republican Ohio Senator Jon Husted, recounting how he examined Husted’s buttocks and hands after learning about his background in college football.

The president’s remarks occurred during a campaign swing supporting Republican candidates ahead of the November congressional midterm elections. According to reporting by British news outlet The Independent, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden spoke before Trump took the stage, recounting that he and Husted had played together on the Dayton Flyers football team in the 1980s. Gruden described the senator as the best athlete on that college squad, sparking the 47th president’s curiosity.

“I’m standing over here, and I don’t do this with men very often, but I started examining his body because I didn’t know he was a great athlete,” Trump told the audience to laughter and applause. “I looked, and I watched up and down. I looked at his ass, and I looked at the whole… and then I looked at his hands. Look at his hands — he’s got these, like, claws. And I got it: you are a great athlete.” Trump also remarked on the senator’s jawline, quipping that while he had never previously studied Husted, he now pays close attention to his appearance. The president’s unusually candid remarks about a fellow male politician’s physical traits quickly circulated across American media and social networks, drawing wide commentary.

Jon Husted has represented Ohio in the United States Senate since January 2025. Previously serving as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, Secretary of State, and Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, Husted was an All-American defensive back for the University of Dayton football team, helping win the NCAA Division III national championship in 1989.

The Ohio Senate contest remains closely watched across partisan and cultural battlegrounds: Uránia previously reported on Donald Trump’s address at the same Youngstown rally, where he criticized Husted’s Democratic opponent, former Senator Sherrod Brown, over an earmark for youth drag story events. In addition, Jon Husted’s Senate candidacy was officially endorsed by the conservative LGBT organization Log Cabin Republicans, while Midwest Democrats continue to grapple with internal strategic disputes over gender and cultural messaging.
