On October 2, 2026, Grindr, the world’s leading dating and social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people, announced an agreement to acquire LGBTQ+-focused telehealth platform Freddie (PurposeMed Inc.) for $250 million. The deal aims to integrate HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and sexual health services directly into Grindr’s mobile application for users across the United States and Canada.

According to a report by PinkNews , the transaction consists of $190 million in cash and $60 million in Grindr common stock, with up to an additional $70 million in earnouts tied to 2027 performance milestones. The acquisition represents the largest strategic purchase in Grindr’s history since its founding in 2009 and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Through the integration into the Grindr Health division, users will be able to consult with clinicians online, complete required laboratory testing, and receive discreet PrEP deliveries—often at little to no out-of-pocket cost through health insurance coverage. Freddie was founded in Canada in 2020 by infectious disease physician Dr. Husein Moloo and grew into Canada’s largest independent PrEP provider before expanding into all 50 U.S. states, serving more than 55,000 patients. Dr. Moloo will continue to lead the platform under Grindr.

Grindr Chief Executive Officer George Arison emphasized that the acquisition tackles critical access barriers: in the United States alone, more than 2.2 million people are recommended for PrEP, yet only around 650,000 actively receive prescriptions due to stigma, medical deserts, and navigation hurdles.

Improving HIV prevention accessibility remains a central priority for queer health globally. Previously, Urania reported on the rollout of the long-acting injectable drug lenacapavir for HIV PrEP in Mozambique and examined demographic studies of the adult LGBT population in the United States .
