U.S. Organization CWA Reports Nearly 2,300 Medals Won by Transgender Women in U.S. Female Sports

On September 22, 2026, in Washington, the American organization Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) published an updated study stating that transgender women have won 2,293 first-place finishes and gold medals in female sports categories across the United States since the mid-1980s. According to a press release from Concerned Women for America , transgender athletes participated in more than 14,300 female sports events at various levels during this period, with professional prize winnings exceeding $500,000.

The release of the report coincided with a hearing held on September 23 by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee titled “Standing Up for Women in Sports: Ensuring Opportunity, Fairness and Safety for Female Athletes.” Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWA, urged Congress to pass a package of three federal bills, including prohibitions on biological males competing in female sports divisions at federally funded educational institutions and codifying a strictly biological definition of sex within Title IX. Proponents of these restrictions maintain that physiological advantages resulting from male development persist despite hormone therapy, creating an unfair competitive environment and displacing biological women from awards, athletic scholarships, and professional prospects. During the Senate hearing, representatives from the Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) testified in support of the measures, while most Democratic senators either boycotted the session or departed shortly after it began.

The figures released by the organization rely on data compiled by HeCheated.org, a volunteer-run tracker developed from the earlier project SheWon.org that monitors transgender participation in American sports. According to CWA’s analysis, recorded first-place finishes increased compared to a July 2025 report that cited roughly 2,000 instances, with more than 611 second-place finishes behind transgender competitors recorded in California alone. At the same time, fact-checkers and LGBTQ+ advocates have criticized the methodology used by these databases. The tracker includes not only collegiate and elite championships, but also amateur local meets, disc golf tournaments, uncontested events with a single competitor (“first place out of one”), and results involving athletes with differences of sex development (DSD). Critics emphasize that mechanically aggregating disparate amateur competitions over four decades creates an exaggerated public impression regarding the prevalence of transgender women dominating top-tier women’s sports.

Concerned Women for America was founded in 1979 by conservative Christian activist Beverly LaHaye as a counterweight to the liberal feminist movement. Today, CWA describes itself as the largest conservative women’s organization in the United States, representing hundreds of thousands of members and actively advocating for traditional family structures, protections for unborn children, and legislative boundaries based on biological sex.
