Annual LGBT Pride Held in Elche, Spain, with Christian Activists Participating

From September 9 to 13, 2026, the Spanish city of Elche in the province of Alicante hosted its annual LGBT Pride celebrations, culminating in a demonstration through the city streets. Members of the Madrid-based Christian association CRISMHOM took part in the festivities and published a report highlighting the central leadership role played by women in organizing the events.

According to a report published by the women’s group of the CRISMHOM association , the 2026 Elche Pride was held under the motto “Against your hatred, our pride” (“Ante tu odio, nuestro orgullo”). The main local organizers were the civic advocacy groups Temis and DIMOVE. The program included community panels, cultural gatherings, and a political debate roundtable. The central Saturday parade brought together hundreds of marchers calling for equality, civil rights, and freedom from prejudice.

Unlike most Spanish cities where Pride marches take place in June, Elche traditionally holds its Pride celebrations in September. The city council has seen ongoing political debate regarding municipal support for LGBT events between members of the ruling coalition composed of the center-right People’s Party (PP) and the conservative Vox party. Meanwhile, local advocacy groups continue to emphasize the importance of visibility and engagement with local authorities across medium-sized regional municipalities.

CRISMHOM (Comunidad Cristiana de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales de Madrid) is an ecumenical Christian LGBT association founded in Madrid in 2006. DIMOVE and Temis are prominent grassroots civil society organizations in Elche dedicated to promoting diversity, education, and equal rights.

Previously, CRISMHOM prepared proposals for the Vatican on pastoral care for families, and in July 2026 its delegates were invited to meet Pope Leo XIV during his apostolic visit to Spain.
