Pennsylvania State Senator James Malone Faces Criticism Over Lesbian D&D Fanfiction and Drag Story Hour Support
Pennsylvania Democratic state Senator James Malone has come under criticism from Republican opponents following reports that he authored romantic and erotic lesbian fanfiction set in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy universe and previously defended library drag queen story hours. The online writings were reported on September 22, 2026, by conservative outlet Breitbart News.
According to materials cited in the report, Malone had been publishing stories featuring romantic and intimate interactions between female characters Brylint and Zamkk on Tumblr under the handle sasquatchwyo73 since at least October 2023. The narratives detailed intimate scenes interspersed with tabletop role-playing game lore involving fictional deities. The outlet stated that the Tumblr account was deleted after reporters began investigating and reached out for comment.
Conservative commentators and political rivals also highlighted Malone’s past defense of Drag Queen Story Hour events. In spring 2024, after a scheduled children’s reading event at a public library in Lancaster County was canceled due to protests and security concerns, Malone expressed disappointment, remarking that voluntary events of that nature “provide kids with a broader experience of life in general.” Republicans argued that such themes conflict with the socially conservative values of the district, while Democratic supporters described the attacks as an election-season effort to weaponize personal creative hobbies ahead of the vote.
James Andrew Malone served as mayor of East Petersburg from 2017 to 2025. In March 2025, he won a special election for Pennsylvania’s 36th Senate District in Lancaster County by fewer than 500 votes, becoming the first Democrat to represent the district since the late 19th century, despite Donald Trump carrying the area by 15 points in 2024. Lancaster County is widely known for its traditional Amish and Mennonite communities. Malone’s bid for reelection in November 2026 has been endorsed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
