Police Surgeon in Uganda Finds No Signs of Sodomy in Youths Accusing Pastor

On September 8, 2026, a police surgeon in a Ugandan court, Dr. Phenehance Bwambale, stated that he found no medical evidence of homosexual contacts in seven young men. These youths are defendants in a case involving defamation and the fabrication of evidence against Robert Kayanja, the senior pastor of the Rubaga Miracle Centre, one of the country’s largest churches.

Testifying under cross-examination, the doctor reported that he examined the accused and found no physical signs consistent with acts of sodomy. According to allAfrica , Dr. Bwambale explained to the court that notes in the medical records regarding the use of condoms and lubricants were based solely on the patients’ own statements and could not be independently verified. Previously, the defense had argued that some of the young men exhibited a displaced tailbone, but the surgeon dismissed any link between this condition and sexual assault.

The trial, which has been ongoing for six years, centers around charges against nine youths. Prosecutors allege that they conspired with critics of Pastor Kayanja and fabricated claims of homosexual relations with him in order to destroy the clergyman’s reputation. The defendants themselves, particularly key witness Reagan Ssentongo, have claimed that the pastor hired them as security guards and “sodomy agents,” and maintained intimate relationships with them. The court, presided over by Magistrate Adams Byarugaba, has adjourned the hearings until October 1, 2026.
