Ed Markey Wins Decisive Senate Primary Victory Following Debate on Transgender Rights

U.S. Senator Ed Markey secured a decisive victory over Congressman Seth Moulton in the Massachusetts Democratic primary, winning approximately 65% of the vote. Transgender rights emerged as a key issue in the campaign, highlighting ideological differences between the candidates.

During the campaign, Seth Moulton faced criticism for his remarks opposing the participation of transgender girls in women’s sports. He later apologized for the comments, but Ed Markey used the issue to demonstrate his commitment to progressive values. At rallies, Markey appeared with a transgender pride flag and declared that “trans rights are human rights.”

According to polls , 67% of Democratic primary voters in the state said they were less likely to support a candidate who opposed transgender rights. Markey’s victory means he will represent the party in the November elections, while Moulton, who gave up his House seat to run for the Senate, will be left without an elected office.
