Russian Femboy Politician Daniil Neonov Re-Detained Upon Release from Detention Center

Daniil Neonov, a Russian candidate for municipal deputy in Moscow’s Shchukino district who identifies as a femboy, was re-detained on August 7, 2026, immediately after his release in Moscow. The politician was leaving the special detention center where he had served a 10-day administrative arrest for displaying “extremist” symbolism—publishing a photo of himself in a t-shirt with a rainbow print.

According to the RusNews outlet, a police car and a civilian vehicle with five operatives in balaclavas were already waiting for the politician at the exit of the facility. They detained Neonov instantly. The reasons for the repeated detention and the current legal status of the young man remain unknown.

In late July 2026, Daniil Neonov launched his election campaign as an independent candidate. He attracted attention with his unconventional image: the politician collected voter signatures wearing a face mask and cat ears, while openly calling himself a femboy. On July 28, he was detained by police and Center for Combating Extremism officers. A court later sentenced him to 10 days of arrest, ruling that the rainbow print on his t-shirt was a demonstration of the symbols of the “international LGBT movement,” which is declared an extremist organization and banned in Russia.
