Lesbian City Official in the US Charged with Attempted Yacht Theft

In the American city of Sausalito, California, City Manager Elaine Forbes was arrested on charges of prowling, petty theft, and attempting to steal a 66-foot yacht, PinkNews reports .

The incident occurred on July 18 at a local marina. According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Forbes trespassed on several boats. The captain of one of the yachts, named Lisa Marie, said he found the official on board after she had turned on the horn, windshield wipers, spotlight, and was trying to start the engine. The vessel’s owner stated that the woman caused chaos in the cabin, tried on his clothes, and drank several bottles of wine.

A few days before the incident, Forbes’ family had reported her missing, and the city council had placed her on leave. Family spokesperson Sam Singer explained that the woman was experiencing a mental health crisis amid a divorce from her long-term partner, Angela Calvillo, who works for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Singer also noted that Forbes herself lives on a boat, which might have caused some confusion. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
