Russian TV Channel Fined One Million Rubles for LGBT Scenes in "Cloud Atlas" Movie
A district court in St. Petersburg has fined the Red Media holding one million rubles for broadcasting the movie “Cloud Atlas” on its TV channel Kinomiks. The reason was showing the film with a “16+” age rating instead of the “18+” required by Russian law.
According to court documents , broadcasting the movie with this age restriction violates the administrative code article on demonstrating LGBT relationships to minors. The violation was recorded during a television broadcast in April 2026.
Representatives of the TV channel admitted their guilt during the court proceedings. The sci-fi film “Cloud Atlas” (2012) tells six interconnected stories, one of which features a romantic relationship between two men.
