German Parliament Members Enter Same-Sex Marriage
Members of the German Bundestag Sepp Müller and Wolfgang Stefinger have officially married. They have become the first same-sex married couple in the German parliament.
Both politicians represent the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, which has been part of the country’s ruling coalition since 2025. Sepp Müller is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and Wolfgang Stefinger represents the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU).
The civil wedding ceremony took place on June 18 in Wörlitz Park in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Two days later, on June 20, the couple received a church blessing in Wildbad Kreuth, Bavaria. The politicians announced the event on their social media.
Among those who congratulated the couple were their party colleagues, including the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Markus Söder. Müller and Stefinger met while working in the Bundestag and publicly announced their relationship in January 2023.
