Anti-Immigrant Australian Party Member Jason Virgo Comes Out and Speaks About His Muslim Partner

Jason Virgo, a Member of Parliament for the anti-immigrant One Nation party, came out as gay during his maiden speech in the South Australian parliament. He tearfully revealed that he has been living with a man — a Muslim and an Indonesian immigrant — for eleven years.

The politician explained that unknown individuals had spread rumors about his sexual orientation during the election campaign. Virgo decided to state his homosexuality publicly so that voters would hear it directly from him, rather than through “whispers.”

Jason Virgo, elected in March 2026, also confessed his “love for migrants.” According to him, the overwhelming majority of them are simply “searching for a better life.” At the same time, the politician assured that his personal position does not prevent him from advocating for a reduction of immigration into the country, the level of which he considers too high.

Before joining One Nation, Virgo was a member of the Labor Party and the Australian Sex Party. In the past, he advocated for LGBT rights and in his speech promised to continue fighting for “marriage equality.”

Virgo’s stance contrasts with the views of Cory Bernardi, the leader of One Nation in South Australia. Bernardi is known for his conservative approach and previously linked same-sex marriages to bestiality. Jason Virgo himself stated that different opinions are tolerated within the party.
